About
12. Oeuvre, in progress...

The project Oeuvre is based on the work of Johannes Verheul Dzn. (1860-1948). Verheul was a well-known Rotterdam-based architect at his time, working on projects in several cities and villages in the Netherlands. During his lifetime he was dedicated to historical buildings and systematically documented places and houses with his aim to keep them for the coming generations; he left a archive of around 450 detailed paintings and several books with descriptions about the depicted.
In contradiction; not even hundred years later his own work is mostly forgotten. 80% of his architecture got destroyed in the WW2 bombing or were brought down to build new architectural projects. Oeuvre is about the artist's body of work in general, the impermanence of out surroundings and the unstoppable process of passing time. Oeuvre will result in a book in 2011. The remaining 25 buildings are shown in photographs.
